about

Most people know this song from the singing of Dick Gaughan. However, I first heard it on the radio when I was living in Banff on the North East Coast back about 2002. The version I heard was by a Cape Breton singer called Susan McKeown. As soon as I could, I drove to Aberdeen and found her album in One Up records (or Bruce Millers - neither of which are there now!). I listened to it over and over until I knew it. The recording here was made in Glasgow about 2003 or 4 when myself and Craig had quite newly started performing. I've heard some great versions by other singers since (including Dick Gaughan!).
